Portugal's captain vote was cast by Bernardo Silva, despite Cristiano Ronaldo being skipper of the national team, with the Man City star voting Rodri, Vinicius and Haaland as his top three.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi, a three-time winner of the award, named Yamal, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius as his top three.
Despite winning the Ballon d'Or, Rodri was not the first choice selection of either Spain's captain Alvaro Morata or head coach Luis de la Fuente.
Morata and De la Fuente both went with an all-Spanish top three of Carvajal, Rodri and Yamal.

Imagine Lionel Messi voting for Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world, simply because he's from Barcelona, not because he's the most deserving.
I acknowledge Lamine Yamal's talent, not because of loyalty, but because it's a fact.
Or what about Rodri being voted for the Ballon d'Or? While he's an excellent player, was he truly the best?
It's time for voters to prioritize performance over personal preferences. Let's celebrate the true heroes of the sport, not just our favorite players.
When it comes to voting, putting rivalries or conflicts aside is indeed crucial. Sincere voting means casting your ballot based on your genuine preferences or meritocracy, rather than strategically voting against someone due to personal biases or prejudices.

How The Best FIFA Men’s Player award winner was determined
Eleven players were initially nominated for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award, having been chosen by a panel of experts for their achievements between 21 August 2023 and 10 August 2024.
From this shortlist, votes were cast by men’s national team coaches, men’s national team captains, football journalists, and fans who voted on FIFA’s official website. Voters made their first, second and third choices for the winner.
Points were given to nominees depending on where they were placed (five points for first, three for second and one for third).
Nominated national team captains could not vote for themselves.
Selections from the four voting groups – coaches, captains, journalists, and fans – each counted for 25 per cent of the total vote, irrespective of the number of voters from each group.
The Best FIFA Men’s Player award was presented to the individual with the most points.
Were the finalists tied on points, the award would be bestowed on the individual who has received the most first-choice selections from their own group of voters (men’s national team captains in the case of this award).
The voting procedure for The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award was supervised by independent observers.
