The Most Overrated Players For The 2023/2024 Season Ranked

Players hype ,Player reputation, their huge transfer fees, expectations and actual performance have been a subject of debate regarding whether a player can be classified as overrated or flop.

Ultimately, whether a player is considered Overrated or flop depends on individual perspectives  and numbers.

          # 14 Eder Militao *                                     Real  Madrid CF

         ( credit. Wikipedia's )

Overall, his performance has been abysmal, very inconsistent across all competition for the los blancos. Misses easy interceptions and when he tackles the ball wins it less often than other center backs

though a versatile player who can play from the right back and center back positions and sometimes can be good with the head but very disappointing tactically in all round play.

Coming from Fc Porto in 2019 the expectations was high and dubbed to be the the next big thing for the Madrid side but has failed to live up to the hype, however he has managed to remain relevant since his arrival.

          # 13 Ousmane Dembele *                      Paris st Germain

( credit; world football com )

The French forward was considered a world class talent by many in his youth days at Rennes and  Borrussia  Dortmund where he arguably played his best football that made Barcelona sign him at a record fee of $158.36 million including all bonuses making him the most expensive signing in the clubs history .

Despite his huge potential  and price tag Dembele floped at Barcelona and now at PSG he's still struggling to reach the expected level.

Obviously very talented winger who does all the nice skills with the ball  makes the pacy moves but  his end decisions are usually very poor and this aspect has greatly defined his play both at Barcelona and PSG

               # 12 Alvaro Morata *                               A C Milan.

                  ( credit Elcorreo)

The 31 year old Spanish captain who guided Spain to euro 2024 victory joined  A C Milan from from Atletico Madrid for a four year deal in July 2024.

The expectisons for Alvaro Morata  were high though. He has never been a 30+ scorer, but he landed at A C Milan after a season at Atletico Madrid that was his most prolific ever (21 goals in 2023-24) and has plenty of experience.

He has been handed the responsibility of a top striker but he had become more of a burden to the team he has never lived up to the hype in all his career. Scoring sparingly and have not been a reliable Hit man for both club and country

    # 11 Mason Mount *                                Manchester united*                                 (Credit goal.com )

Mason mount has repeatedly failed to  justify his £60 million s fee since joining Manchester united from Chelsea

The England international man utd career has been a tale of frustration so far with fitness issues preventing him from making the expected impact from both club and fans

While I think he’s quite talented and clever on the ball, I think he is hyped up a bit too much. Lacks a little in consistency may be can better be described as a one season wonder player

However he needs to stay fit to prove he can still be a top player at Old Traford to justify his huge transfer fee .

         # 10. Aurelian Tchouameni *                Real Madrid

The France midfielder has endured a mixed season since making a €100 million (£85m/$107m) move from Monaco to real Madrid with a very high expectations,at some point  established himself as a regular and later fell off with some level of inconsistency in performance

The highly rated Tchouameni had establshed  himself as a regular before the sudden drop in form that has seen him play sparingly as in different positions  as against the original idea of making him the perfect replacement for Toni kroos as anticipated

From his Stats generally he hasn't been an awful player but more were expected of him after two whole seasons considering his huge price price tag and the chase from top European clubs at that time

   # 9  Matthijs De light *                             Manchester united

     (Credit Getty image,)

Matthijs De light a player tipped for greatness in his early days at Ajax  but a disappointing spells at juventus and Bayern munchen has seen him drop in  confidence and play like a school boy

The arrival of De Ligt at Old Trafford was met with great excitement; however, his time has been marred by errors, leaving him a shadow of the defender he was touted to be.

A move to Manchester United to team up  with his former coach was another motivation  with higher expectations and the feeling he was going to come back strong again unfortunately he's still unable to reach the elite level

He is a player good in tackle and comfortable in possession shows a lot of presence too but some man utd fans  says he's a flop already while some say he needs more playing time to get back to the top. We wait to see

   # 8. Mykhailo Mudryk *                          Chelsea FC

( credit, imago)

The 23-year-old Ukrainian, who joined Chelsea for a hefty £88.5 million fee in January 2023, has struggled to live up to his price tag, contributing only one goal and two assists in his last 18 Premier League appearances.

It's easy to conclude Chelsea’s £89m deal for Mykhailo Mudryk has arguably been one of the biggest wastes of money in Premier League history.

After around six months at the club, it quickly became common knowledge that the signing had been a disaster, and after 18 months now, it looks as though the west London club are looking to cut their losses.

Though gifted Mykhailo Mudryk has some very unique skills .. he's very fast great dribbler with some very cool passing as well. Despite his skills he has remained unconvincing especially his finishing.

Very poor and overrated .

   # 7  joshua zirkzee. *                               Manchester United                                      (Ctedit. goal.com )

The media hype comparison of.    Joshua  Zirkzee to Ronaldinho a possible view shared by scouts from some top clubs as Manchester united, Arsenal and Juventus  combined with other sporting factor s like his supposedly composure and skills made zirkzee one of the most coveted players on the transfer market last summer. Is United however, who won the race for the 23 year old after agreeing to pay an excess  of his €40 million (£33.5m/$43.5m) release clause

Last season joshua Zirkzee, was Bologna's top scorer with 11 goals and lead                      IBologna  qualify for the 2024-25 UEFA.       Champions League some Analyst suggests he could do more in a bigger club with much better squad compared to Bologna

He netted on his Premier League debut against Fulham, but has gone goalless through 17 appearances in all competition s he has been disappointing in his work rate and output so far he hasn't in anyway lived up to the hype surrounding his transfer.  He appears to be indecisive in front of goal , the last game against Liverpool at An field he had the last minute chance to seal the game but he rather choose to Harry Maquire and he ' POLICED' the ball over the bar.

At 23 there is more time to for him to prove he's worth the big bucks

   # 6 timeo Werner *                                  Newcastle united     credit Forbes

Time Werner was rated as one of Europe's top forwards, known for his pace and goal-scoring ability. However, his performance did not consistently meet the hype and high expectations set for him, leading some fans and analysts to label him a flop.

looking at his  Performance  during his two seasons at Chelsea, Werner scored a total of 23 goals in 89 appearances across all competitions. While this includes some crucial goals, such as in the Champions League, his finishing was often criticized, and he missed several clear chances.

Contributions Beyond Goals: Werner's playing style involves more than just scoring. He contributed to the team's build-up play and created chances for his teammates. His work rate and ability to stretch defenses were valuable but his goal tally was lower than expected.

Return to Germany: In 2022, Werner returned to RB Leipzig, where he has found more success, further complicating the narrative about his time in the Premier League

Back again  to premier league on loan to  Tottenham, Werner is yet to show any improvement in his final product, he has been at the heart of a few best chances that spurs have created this season typical of him wasted too many  huge chances when through on goal and in good positions.

                 # 5 Manuel Ugarta *                               Manchester united

Manuel Ugarte  joined Man Utd  from PSG for an initial £42 million (€50m) but he has struggled badly to justify that fee in the early weeks of the season.

Big things were expected of Ugarte, who was one of the most wanted central midfielders in Europe at the time.

However, the 23-year-old struggled to live up to the hype during his only season at PSG

United chased Ugarte for a long time, identifying him as the type of ball-winner they needed to strengthen their midfield

Presumably, the hope is Ugarte will help to shore things up defensively in the centre by largely replacing Casemiro

After Ugarte put in his best United performance to date against Leicester, expectations were high However, against superior opposition, he has been unlikely to live up to these standards, which is exactly what happened. Why the united fans have labeled him the worst midfielder in man utd history in recent times

    # 4 Moses Cacedo *                                  Chelsea FC

Chelsea smashed the British transfer record to lure Moises Caicedo away from Brighton for  staggering  fee of £115 million ($147m) in 2023.

The Blues needed caceido to reinforce the midfield as Ngolo kante Matteo kovacic have all left, expected to be the real game changer right from the off, and he crumbled under the weight of expectation.

He always led the way for tackles and interceptions at Brighton, but wasn't breaking up the play nearly as effectively for Chelsea, and seemed to be lacking the composure that had been a staple of his game But for that price tag for a defensive midfielder  Caicedo must be considered a massive failure.

   #3 Ansu Fati * F C Barcelona

Ansu fati was supposed to take up messi's role at  Barcelona believed to be the closest player  Barcelona had produced to Messi in years, widely touted as the next big thing he subsequently inherited Barca's famous #10 shirt as a testament to the hype

Four years on from his debut, Fati is playing his football at Brighton having joined Brighton on loan for the 2023-24 campaign where he made 26 appearances  in all competition.  Fati has scored four times and contributed one assist

Barcelona had recalled him to the club after an unsuccessful loan spell at Brighton in the 2023-24 season, hoping he can revive his career and become and important player for the club , but he suffered a foot injury during preseason that led him to remain out of action for a further two months. He made a few starts after returning to fitness, but suffered a hamstring injury last week that will keep him out of action until

To be fair. Fati is an exciting young talent with a huge reputation coning from          La masia and breaking almost all record of a young player but the hype of the the new messi tag somehow makes him overrated.

$ 2 Jack.  Grealish*                                  Manchester City

Manchester City signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for £100m in the biggest deal in British football history in 2021 on a six- year deal unfortunately he has failed to prove he is an elite player

Very overrated. To be fair He is a good player but not great

He looked great at Villa but as often seen, a very good player in an average  team makes you Wonder what he will be like in a Big team But as they the taste of the pudding is in the eating  He has been tested for club and country same old jack

His play at city has  been very poor for 2023/2024 seeson nothing really spectacular

 Definitely not worth £100 million

   #1 Darwin Nunez* Liverpool Fc

Darwin Núñez's transfer to Liverpool was one of the most significant moves of the 2022 summer transfer window. However, the Uruguayan striker has yet to fully establish himself in the English team and has raised doubts about his true value.

Nunez joined the Reds with a lot of hype after his club-record £85million move from Benfica in the summer of 2022, and whilst his indifferent start to life on Merseyside began with a goal and an            assist  in his first two games, his overall campaign was a relative failure with 15 goals and four  assists in his first campaign after 42  games.                                                                                                          Since arriving at Anfield, Núñez has been criticized for his inconsistency and lack of clinical finishing in front of goal. Many fans and experts believe his price tag was excessive and that he hasn't lived up to the high expectations surrounding him.

Lack of goals: Despite his impressive physique and speed, Núñez has failed to score as many goals as expected.

Poor decision-making: On many occasions, the Uruguayan has made poor decisions in the final third, which has negatively impacted the team.

Media pressure: The high expectations generated by his transfer have put immense pressure on the player, which could be affecting his performance.

despite notching a resectable 33 goals in 96 appearances for the Reds across two seasons, Nunez has often been famous for his troubles in front of goal, particularly when he fails to put away the easiest of chances
